The Sponsor of FSL Trust is FSL Holdings Pte. Ltd. (formerly known as First Ship Lease Pte. Ltd.). The Sponsor currently holds an interest of about 26% (as at 31 March 2010) in FSL Trust and is a majority shareholder of FSL Trust Management Pte. Ltd. (trustee-manager of FSL Trust).
The Sponsor traces its heritage back to the incorporation of its predecessor, First Ship Lease Ltd. in Bermuda, September 2002. First Ship Lease Ltd. was set up as a commercial finance company with operations based in New York, to provide long-term non-tax driven operating and finance leases to shipping and industrial companies through vessel-owning SPCs. On recognising Asia’s growth potential and opportunity for ship leasing business, First Ship Lease Ltd. relocated its head office to Singapore in August 2005. Upon relocation, First Ship Lease Ltd. was renamed First Ship Lease Pte. Ltd and subsequently FSL Holdings Pte. Ltd. in 2008.
